Obama: US committed to working with Mideast

CAIRO — President Barack Obama says the United States is committed to working in partnership with the countries in the Middle East.

The U.S. president said he sent that message when he met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

The two also were talking about the long-running conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, and discussing how to bring peace in the Middle East.

Obama thanked Mubarak for his hospitality, and praised him as a man who has decades of experience on a range of issues.

They met before Obama delivered what aides called a dose of “truth-telling” about the often fraught relations between Americans and Muslims to a vast, electronically linked-in global audience.
