Obama offers support for Samoa, Indonesia
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is voicing his concern and his condolences over the tsunami in the South Pacific and the earthquake in Indonesia.
He said there’s been a “terrible” loss of life in Samoa and American Samoa as a result of the tsunami that came ashore Tuesday. Obama says he’ll continue to provide the full support of the U.S. government to help in the recovery.
He also says he’s “deeply moved” by the suffering and loss of life from Wednesday’s devastating earthquake in Indonesia, and that the United States stands ready to help.
He says Indonesia is a country that has known “extra hardship” from natural disasters.
