Obama names new head of Military Office

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has named George Mulligan director of the White House Military Office.

Mulligan previously served as deputy director of the office. In a statement, Obama said Mulligan “brings decades of experience and has served with integrity.”

Mulligan replaces Louis Caldera, who resigned in May after he authorized a photo shoot of Air Force One flying over New York City. The incident sent panicked workers rushing into the streets amid flashbacks of Sept. 11.

A report following the incident said Mulligan told Caldera he should alert high-ranking White House officials before the flyover, but Caldera failed to do so.
