Obama offers support to Indonesia’s president

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has called Indonesia’s leader to express support for the Indonesian government and people after suicide attacks at two hotels killed seven people.

Obama spoke on Saturday with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SOO’-see-loh BAM’-bang yoo-doo-YOH’-noh).

The White House said Obama expressed solidarity and offered U.S. support to the Indonesian investigation. The bombings occurred Friday at two American luxury hotels in Jakarta, the Indonesian capital.

A White House account of the phone call said the two leaders affirmed government cooperation in countering extremism in Southeast Asia and elsewhere. Obama also congratulated Yudhoyono on his recent re-election.
