LONDON - US president Barack Obama has landed himself in the top spot of the nominations for this year’s British Book Awards after he was shortlisted for both author and biography of the year.

Obama’s political book, The Audacity of Hope, and his life story, Dreams from My Father, became UK bestsellers while he was running for office in 2008, reports the BBC.

The president had written ‘Dreams from My Father’, even before he thought of entering politics and the book had been published in 1995.

The story deals with his early life as a black boy growing up with his white grandparents, and in it he reveals about his drug use and flirtations with the Black Power movement.

Kate Summerscale, who won last year’s Samuel Johnson prize, joins Obama in being nominated twice for her work ‘The Suspicions of Mr Whicher’.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on April 3.
