Obama: Iran must stop violence against protesters
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama is expressing outrage at the violent crackdown by the Iranian government against protesters of the disputed presidential election.
In a statement at the White House, Obama said the United States joins the international community in condemning what he called the threats, beatings and imprisonments of the last few days.
His language was stronger than in previous statements about the unrest following June 12 voting.
Obama said he is not interfering in Iran’s internal affairs but condemns what he called unjust actions as the Iranian people attempt to debate their future.
