WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama condemned the terrorist attacks in Russia’s Caucasus region Monday that killed at least 20 people.

The attack on the police station in Nazran, Ingushetiya also left 138 people injured.

“There can be no justification for such an act of terrorism,” Obama said in a statement. “This latest attack highlights the concerning increase in violence in the region affecting officials and civilians alike.”

Ingushetia, along with the rest of the Caucasus region, has become increasingly unstable in recent months as Islamist militants seek independence from Moscow, launching regular attacks on officials and police officers.
