OAS announces delegation to Honduras
WASHINGTON — The Organization of American States has named a delegation to try to persuade the interim government in Honduras to return ousted President Manuel Zelaya.
The OAS says foreign ministers from Argentina, Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic will travel to Honduras on Tuesday. The foreign ministers will be accompanied by senior OAS officials including OAS Secretary-General Jose Miguel Insulza.
The OAS mediators hope that interim President Roberto Micheletti can be pressured to accept a plan proposed by Costa Rican President Oscar Arias under which Zelaya would return to power until new elections could be held.
