NYC mayor calls for ground zero development summit
NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is calling for a summit to resolve stalled ground zero redevelopment talks.
The mayor is inviting the owners of the World Trade Center site, developer Larry Silverstein and the governors of New York and New Jersey to a meeting next week.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns ground zero, and Silverstein have been squabbling about terms of a lease that lets Silverstein build three of five planned office towers.
Officials have said delays could jeopardize building schedules for the Sept. 11 memorial, a transit hub and at least two office towers. On Friday, construction workers began laying the first concrete slab of the plaza that will surround the memorial’s two reflecting pools.
