NTSB: Boston trolley in 2008 crash going too fast
BOSTON — Federal investigators say a Boston trolley operator who was killed when her train rammed into another didn’t heed a red warning signal and was going too fast.
National Transportation Safety Board investigators say Terrese Edmonds shouldn’t have been traveling more than 10 mph after pulling out of a station in suburban Newton last year. They say her trolley was moving 38 mph when it slammed into the back of another trolley paused at a faulty signal just ahead.
Seven people were injured in the May 2008 crash.
NTSB documents released Monday show Edmonds was not impaired by drugs or alcohol.
A telephone call by The Associated Press to the union representing Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority drivers hasn’t been returned.
A trolley crash this year injured dozens of people. It was blamed on a driver who was sending text messages.
