Noted film critic Amita Malik dead

NEW DELHI - Veteran journalist and film and media critic Amita Malik died in New Delhi Friday. She was 86.

Often described as the ‘first lady of Indian journalism’, Malik was known for her comprehensive and incisive interviews of celebrities and columns. She had interviewed stars like Satyajit Ray, Marlon Brando, David Niven and Alfred Hitchcock in a career spanning over five decades.

She began as a freelancer for The Statesman, which was then edited by Evan Charlton, a British journalist. She also reviewed films.
