Nissan NA to export engines to Japan
DECHERD, Tenn. — Nissan is planning to export engines from the United States to Japan for the first time.
Nissan executives told Nashville radio station WPLN that the plant at Decherd is exporting engines for a luxury SUV, the Infiniti QX56, that is assembled in Canton, Miss. Next year that plant will start building commercial trucks, and production of the Infiniti SUV will shift to Japan.
Nissan said the exporting to Japan could boost Decherd’s production from its current 40 percent of capacity.
Nissan manufacturing vice president Susan Brennan said the exports could attract opportunities for more work to the plant at Decherd, where 850 are employed.
