New fire in Southern California threatens homes
YUCAIPA, Calif. — A small fire has erupted in San Bernardino County in Southern California, threatening six homes and burning about five miles from a 1,000-acre fire.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention spokesman Jason Meyer said Monday the fire started on a hill and has burned about 15 acres near Yucaipa,
He says the flames are burning away from homes, but residents of 10 homes have been evacuated as a precaution.
The fire is burning toward a bigger fire threatening 2,000 homes that has already forced the evacuation of Oak Glen, a scenic community of farmhouses and apple orchards. That fire is 25 percent contained.
Yucaipa and about 90 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
