7th NC terror suspect to remain in custody
RALEIGH, N.C. —A seventh suspect from North Carolina who is accused of plotting terrorism overseas is being held until trial after a judge said he was a flight risk and a danger to the community.
Anes Subasic (AH’-nehs soo-BASE’-ik) had his detention hearing Monday afternoon. The 33-year-old appeared last week with six other suspects but was dismissed from the courtroom after his attorney requested to be removed from the case. Subasic also had asked for a new Serbo-Croatian interpreter.
The other defendants in the case have also been ordered held until trial. They have been taken to a jail in Farmville, Va.
An eighth suspect is still at large. Authorities say they last heard he was in Pakistan.
Family and friends of the terror suspects have said the men are innocent.
