Mother arrested for killing sons

MOGA - A woman was arrested in this Punjab town for conspiring to murder her two minor children in connivance with her lover, police said Sunday.

Acting on the complaint of deceased children’s father, the police had arrested Ranjit Gupta and his wife Sanju Gupta, who live in the same neighbourhood, for allegedly kidnapping the children.

“During the interrogation, the couple revealed the name of another man Ravinder Singh alias Kukku. We also arrested him and during the questioning, he told police that he and Ravinder killed the children on the direction of Aarti, mother of the the kids,” Moga Senior Superintendent of Police Ashok Baath said.

He said Aarti was also arrested and it was discovered that she had illicit relations first with Gupta and later with Kukku. She and Kukku planned this murder and also involved Gupta in their plan as they wanted to put the entire blame on him.

Aman (11) and his brother Om (7) had left their home Thursday evening for tuition. After the tuition, like every other day, their tutor dropped them near their home but they did not return home.

Following this, their father Rakesh Kumar registered a missing complaint with the police and expressed suspicion about Ranjit and Sanju’s involvement.

Kumar also mentioned that few days back Sanju had a heated altercation with his wife, over a petty issue and Sanju had threatened them to kill their children.

Police Friday morning found the kids’ bodies, with strangulation marks on the neck, in the paddy fields on the Moga-Sirhind road.

“Kuku had told police that Aarti herself had handed over her sons to him and Gupta Thursday evening and they strangulated the kids with a rope,” Baath said.

Moga is around 210 km from the state capital Chandigarh.
