Moderate quake hits Japan

TOKYO - A moderate quake with a magnitude of 5.0 jolted northern Japan, the Japan Meteorological Agency said Tuesday.

The focus of the quake, which occurred at 9.13 p.m. local time (0013 GMT), was some 50 km under the sea off Fukushima prefecture, the agency said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property and no tsunami warning was issued.
