Media award for young woman journalist

NEW DELHI - Alifiya Khan, 24, has won the third Anupama Jayaraman Memorial journalism award for exposing loopholes in the country’s healthcare system with a series of investigative articles.
The award consists of a citation and a cash award of Rs.15,000. Khan, a Mumbai-based correspondent with the Hindustan Times, wrote on 12 state-run healthcare centres.
‘Primary Hell Centres’ - one of her articles which helped Khan clinch the award - unveiled the condition of health centres where untrained Ayurvedic doctors carried out post mortems and used disposable needles on patients.
The award was set up by the family of Anupama, a young journalist who died in 2006. It aims at encouraging young women journalists writing on social issues. Last year the award bagged by Azera Rahman of IANS.
