Markets under pressure, Sensex slips 248 points

MUMBAI - Indian equities markets were under pressure and fell sharply Monday afternoon, with a key index ruling 239 points lower than its previous close about 90 minutes before the closing bell.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 11,997.37 points, was ruling 239.66 points or 2.02 percent lower at 11,627.58 points.

Similarly, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) lost 2.37 percent from the previous close to trade at 3,534.85 points.

Broader market indices were also ruling in the red, with the BSE midcap index shedding 2.13 percent and the BSE smallcap index losing 2.35 percent.
