Markets slide at opening bell

MUMBAI - Indian equities markets slipped soon after opening marginally higher Monday. A key index was ruling one percent below its last closing figure.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened at 9,637.04 points, marginally higher than its 9,634.74 point close Friday. About 10 minutes into trade, it was at 9,535.59 points, 1.03 percent or 99.15 points lower than its previous close.

At the same time, the S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was at 2,918.25 points, 1.02 percent lower than its previous close of 2,948.35.

However, the BSE midcap index was 0.11 percent higher, while the BSE smallcap index was up 0.44 percent.
