Markets in red, Sensex down 300 points (Third Lead)

MUMBAI - Indian equities markets closed in the red Monday, with a key index shedding 300 points to end below the 15,000-mark.

The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Sensex, which opened at 15,195.83 points, fell 300.73 points or 1.97 percent to end trade at 14,937.21 points (provisional).

The Sensex hit an intra-day high of 15,261.03 points and a low of 14,807.26 points.

Like Sensex, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) too closed in the red, losing 1.76 percent to close at 4,502.95 points.

Broader market indices also closed in the negative terrain, with the BSE midcap index ending 2.02 percent lower, while the BSE smallcap index was 1.91 percent down.
