Markets extend losses in afternoon trade

MUMBAI - Indian equities markets were lagging in the afternoon trade Wednesday. A key index was ruling 1.95 percent lower than its previous close an hour before end of trade.

The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened Wednesday at 8,900.78 points against the previous close of 9,100.55, was ruling at 8,923.09 points.

At this level, the Sensex was down 177.46 points or 1.95 percent from Tuesday’s close.

The broader S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was also in a slump, ruling at 2,750.65 points, 1.64 percent lower than its previous close.
