Markets close on tame note

MUMBAI - Indian equities markets closed Wednesday on a tame note with a key index ending only 0.68 percent above its previous close.

The 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex), which opened at 8,913.44 points, shut shop at 8,881.86 points (provisional), 0.68 percent or 59.8 points higher than its previous close.

The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended at 2,759 points, 0.92 percent up from its last close of 2,733.9 points.

The BSE midcap index was 0.34 percent higher, while the BSE smallcap index was up 0.51 percent.
