LUCKNOW - A Maoist was arrested Tuesday in Uttar Pradesh and explosives, including detonators and gelatin rods, seized from him, police said Tuesday.

“Baleshwar Thakur was nabbed today (Tuesday) by the Special Operation Group (SOG) sleuths in forests of the Sonebhadra district,” Superintendent of Police Ram Kumar told reporters.

A total of 10 detonators, 20 gelatin rods, several live cartridges and a country-made pistol were recovered from Thakur’s possession, he added.

Police believe Thakur had planned to carry out an explosion in the district. “He is being questioned,” the police officer said.

Sonebhadra is about 250 km from Lucknow.
