congressCongress has won the Maharashtra election defeating BJP. Today’s victory, which has come six months after the Lok Sabha poll success, was not entirely unexpected, but what is noteworthy is that the win in Maharashtra overcomes anti-incumbency and places the party at the head of a coalition for a third consecutive term. For the Parliamentary elections 2009. The victory was no doubt very important to consolidate congress party.

Congress has entered a pre-poll alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) and the Republican Party of India(RPI), with Congress contesting on 26 seats and 22 going to NCP. BJP has again teamed up with it’s past ally, the Shiv Sena, with BJP contesting on 26 seats and the Shiv Sena fighting on 22 seats. According to the sources NCP chief, Sharad Pawar, is a Prime Ministerial candidate this year and so it’d be pretty interesting to see the seats won by NCP.
