Lightning strikes claim 10 lives in Jharkhand

RANCHI - Lightning strikes have claimed lives of 10 people, including three women and two children, in various parts of Jharkhand, an official said here Friday.

Lightning struck at two places of Dumka district Thursday night in which three women and a man were killed. All the three women belonged to Vishrampur village of Dumka, around 450 km from Ranchi. They had taken shelter under a tree when the lightning struck them.

Also, two children died in Hariharganj of Palamau district Thursday night while three people died in Garwah and one in Koderma.

This year lightning strikes have claimed more than 30 lives in the state so far.

Jharkhand is witnessing continual rainfall for the last three days due to cyclonic pressures formed in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, according to the Met Office here.
