Lightning kills 10 in Bengal village

KOLKATA - Ten people were killed and 12 injured when lightning struck the venue of a religious ritual in a West Bengal village, police said Wednesday.

The injured have been admitted to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. Three of them are in critical condition.

The tragedy occurred Tuesday evening at a place where people had gathered for the last rites of a rsident, in the rain-drenched Atakulla village in Burdwan district.

Eight people died on the spot. One died on way to hospital and another while being admitted, police said.
