Kerala police to rely more on computers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Blakrishnan Friday said the police force has been directed to use computers extensively so that law and order issues can be tackled more efficiently.
The decision to use computers at all police stations was taken at a meeting between Balakrishnan and the top brass of the state police.
‘It has been decided that to start with computers would be used extensively for day-to-day policing in three of the 14 districts. We do not even mind computerising records for producing in courts if they are willing,’ Balakrishnan told reporters.
He added that a new police complex and a marine sub-division would be set up in Kochi.
‘Various departments like the intelligence, crime branch, forensic will also be modernised. Recruitment of sports personalities to the Kerala police, which hasn’t taken place for four years, will happen soon. Moreover, the newly introduced community policing project will be extended to 20 more police stations,’ said Balakrishnan.
