Corcoran named AP Latin America enterprise editor

NEW YORK — Katherine Corcoran, an editor at the Latin America Desk of The Associated Press and a former teacher and innovator in community journalism, has been promoted to the new position of enterprise editor for Latin America and the Caribbean.

John Daniszewski, senior managing editor, made the announcement Monday.

“Compelling narratives and hard-edged storytelling from South and Central America make this region fascinating and relevant to readers,” Daniszewski said. “Based in Mexico City, Corcoran will help bring such stories to a broad audience.”

Corcoran joined the AP in January 2008 after an award-winning career as a reporter and editor at newspapers including the San Jose Mercury News, The Denver Post and the San Francisco Chronicle.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, she taught journalism at Stanford University and at the University of California at Berkeley, where she developed an innovative program in community journalism.

She will continue to report to Latin America Editor Niko Price.

“Kathy has helped make the AP’s regional enterprise report stand out over the past year and a half, and we are confident she’ll be able to do even more in her enhanced role,” Price said.
