Joel Wilson Shouts “You Lie!”

Republican Congressman, Joel Wilson, from South Carolina interrupted President Barak Obama, who was delivering a speech in context of illegal immigrants and healthcare to the Congress, by shouting out, “You lie!” Immediately, some Democrats horrified by the reaction shouted, “Shame on you!”, while from some other corner of the gathering, someone shouted, “Throw him out!”
As soon as the President said, “the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally,” Wilson accused the President of being a liar. Speaking about the incident to Larry King on CNN, Senator McCain not only condemned Wilson’s attitude, but also said, “No place for it in that setting or any other, and he should apologize for it immediately.” Many of the dignitaries present at the gathering criticized the outburst and at the same time agreed with McCain that it was “totally disrespectful”.
As soon as the speech was over Wilson came forward to apologize. He said, “This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the president’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the healthcare bill. While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.” It has also been reported that Wilson had personally called the White House to apologize.
The after effect of Wilson’s outburst was that a huge traffic ensued in the Congressman’s website. As a result the website crashed and a message was shown saying, “Site down for maintenance. Please check back again soon.”
