Joe Wilson shouts “You Lie” at Obama
By Soumya Sinha, Gaea News NetworkWednesday, September 9, 2009
South Carolina rep named Joe Wilson shouted out “You lie” during President Obama’s health care speech to Congress on Wednesday. The incident was, as obvious, taken very seriously and other Republicans were put to shame. As Rep. Earl Pomeroy said,
I’ve never seen anything like that before, We do not invite the president of the United States into the House of Representatives and hurl insults.
At the end, Wilson apologized to the press saying,
While I disagree with the president’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the president for this lack of civility.
But its not for the first time that Wilson hurled comments at a democrat prez. 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kerry was a near victim too.

While the incident did perturb Obama a little, but at the end of the day, it was the house of Congress that is to be asked questions of such silly outbursts even thought they call it an exception. When you have that much power and responsibility, you can not make mistakes sir.

Joe, I do not accept nor do I require an apology for your actions in calling out Obama’s intentional act of lying to the nation. Notwithstanding the emotions you felt at that time, I too beleive that the usurper, who still has not proved himself eligible for that office, and has done everything he can to keep records sealed that would answer the question put forth in the several lawsuits, is not worthy of respecte or trust. Way to go, Joe!!!! |

What Wilson did was shameful and childish, but its representative of the right wing any more: hateful, ugly and vile. The office deserves respect even if you don’t agree with the person. To say Dems did that to Bush is your typical rewrite and twisting of history. No, they did not. Wilson is a US Congressman on the floor of the US Senate, listening to a speech by a President of the United States. That means nothing to many of you but it means something to most, you show some respect, have some decorum, behave with some measure of professionalism and maturity. People don’t elect a senator or congressmen so he can act like an 8-year old and embarrass their state. This isn’t the audience at Jerry Springer, or maybe your house on a Friday night. It’s the United States Congress, have some level of decency and respect. No one ever called Bush, Reagan or any other Republican a liar while he was addressing Congress. Because people in their own lives might have called them liars isn’t the same thing, but that distinction seems to be lost on many of you. It says a lot about someone who can defend what Wilson did, and actually admire it. Imagine just for one brief moment that a Dem had done that to Bush or Reagan, they’d be calling for his head and you know it. Anne Coulter would be saying he’s a traitor and should be tried for treason; Rush et al would be calling him un-American, unpatriotic, etc. The right-wing media who has taken over the Republican party would be having a field day. You can defend him all you want but if you are really truthful with yourself you know that’s what would happen. |

In Canada, where I live, members of the House of Commons are immediately ejected from the chamber if they call another member a liar. Joe Wilson’s rudeness was despicable! Republicans can’t seem to get past the fact that they LOST the last elecion. We have universal health care here and I paid nothing for my quadruple heart bypass. What this is all about is racisim. Shame on South Carolina! |

Funny how a Republican himself John McCain said this morning that Obama’s plan does not give anything to illegal aliens. I expect more respect for someone giving a speech. You may not agree with what the person says but give respect and let them finish. Not the highschool crap that senator Wilson showed. im ashamed for him and i hope he is truely sorry for his outburst. |

Kmorris, it has nothing to do with differences of opinion or Pelosi accusing the CIA. It has to do with respect for the office of the president and our nation. None of our nations Representatives on either side were pleased with the outburst and especially the forum in which it occured. Reason, decorum, civility, should all be applied when representing our country, and the President of the United States is not an acquaintance, a peer, or stage performer to be accused or heckled. Senator Wilson apologized for good reason. |

I don’t know that calling Obama out like that was necessarily the right way of doing it… but I will say this: Obama is a liar, not because of his age, skin color, or background… but because he did lie! Simple as that. If people like Joe don’t call him out on it, and hold him responsible to what he says, then who will? |

Dems can’t take a little yelling of the TRUTH? Republicans should keep yelling until the usurper is gone. WHERE IS YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE? |

Why is okay for democrats to say whatever they want when Bush was in office or even when Pelosi calls the CIA liars? But when someone not on the far left expresses how he feels he gets targeted with all the smear campaigns? Wake up media, the people of the US are tired of you and the BS that has been brought out by you. Maybe, just maybe there’s a difference of opionions and you’re not always right. Thank God we have the ability to speak our minds. Well at least until we are taken over by the government and they take away our right to speak. |

Wilson should follow up his display of class and dignity with an encore, perhaps by pushing an old lady down some stairs, or burning a cross on the White House lawn. |

I wrote this to Rep. Wilson and suggest you all do too. Dear Representative Wilson, Despite anything may have said after your classless outburst, you shamed yourself and have shown that even though a man can wear a three piece suit he can still wear a white robe underneath. Yes sir I am sure it runs much deeper than just your difference of opinion on health care with the President. You are a disgrace to the Legislative Branch of our government and an embarrassment to the state of South Carolina. Any other job you would have been fired on the spot for calling your boss a liar.My hope is that you will be resoundingly defeated in the next election. |
