RANCHI - Jharkhand Tuesday declared four of its 24 districts as drought hit, an official said.

The four districts which have been declared as drought hit are Palamau, Chatra, Latehar and Garhwa.

This year the monsoon was delayed by two weeks in Jharkhand which badly affected the farming. But despite the arrival of the monsoon these four districts received scanty rainfall. The farmers of these districts have failed to sow paddy and other crops.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), however, have demanded that the entire state be declared as drought hit.
