LONDON - Japan’s First Lady Miyuki Hatoyama has become an ambassador for blue jeans after winning the Best Jeanist Award, a prize awarded to denim-wearing stars.

Organisers Japan Jeans Association said the 66-year-old wife of Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama wears her jeans “in a classy but revolutionary style” that “projects a positive spirit representing true denim”.

“This is the prize I have long wished to win. I’m a jeans lover. I’m always putting on jeans as they’re easy to wear,” Sky News quoted Mrs Hatoyama as saying.

Mrs Hatoyama was previously in news for making claims in a book published last year that she was abducted by aliens.

She wrote: “While my body was asleep, I think my soul rode on a triangular-shaped UFO and went to Venus. It was a very beautiful place, and it was very green.”

The former troupe dancer also alleged knowing Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise from a previous life when he was Japanese. (ANI)
