Iranian regime’s forces warn opposition over rally

TEHRAN, Iran — The Iranian regime’s elite Revolutionary Guard is warning opposition protesters against holding a new anti-government demonstration.

Opposition activists have called for protests to coincide with government-sponsored demonstrations marking Quds Day, dedicated to condemning Israel and expressing support for the Palestinians.

The Revolutionary Guard says that if protesters “attempt any sort of violation and disorder” they will encounter “strong confrontation.” The statement was carried Thursday on Iran’s official IRNA news agency.

Iran’s opposition says the government faked the results of a June 12 election. Dozens died in post-election unrest.

There has not been a mass opposition demonstration since mid-July.
