Iran’s election results have thrown the nation in a frenzied state of wide spread agitation and violence. Tens of thousands of the citizen have taken to the road in order to protest against the election’s result. At least one known case of armed men open firing on people has been reported, where one person was reported dead, killed by the gun shot wound.

President Obama has expressed that he is ‘deeply troubled’ by the effervescent situation in the country. The large assembly of protesters have been demonstrating publicly, demanding fresh elections to be held. It is popular belief, the election results have been tampered with.

Mostly the protest rallies have been known to be peaceful, with only the single exception of the one casualty. Tehran became the Mecca for all the protest rallies for the third consecutive day since Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won the presidential election.

After Monday’s rally, the things became a little rough. The rally was held in defiance of the ban imposed by the interior ministry. Since then the situation has become a little turbulent. Police fired several rounds of tear gas, to contain the agitated protesters, who had begun setting bikes on flame. Since the shooting, the peaceful stance of the rally was completely disrupted.

A photographer from the Associated Press who was present in Tehran’s Azadi Square reported that other than the one casualty, several others were grievously injured in the clash. The commotion broke out in front of the local base of the Basji, which is the voluntary paramilitary force. The base was set ablaze by the unruly crowd.
