Iran’s opposition wants investigation into rape

TEHRAN, Iran —One of the defeated reformist candidates in Iran’s disputed presidential election is calling for an investigation into whether protesters detained after the vote were raped in custody.

Mahdi Karroubi says he has received reports from former military commanders and other senior officials that male and female detainees have been repeatedly raped by their jailers.

Allegations of prisoner abuse in Iran’s postelection crisis have spurred public outrage.

Karroubi is appealing for an investigation in a letter to powerful cleric and former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, who has backed reformists in the postelection unrest. Karroubi asks in the letter for Rafsanjani to bring the matter to the attention of Iran’s supreme leader.

Torturers need to be prosecuted.

We all know that the claims of torture are accurate. These murderers must be held accountable for their actions. This is beyond despicable. It is depravity of the highest order cloaked in religious hypocrisy.

Are the people of Iran. Let them impose justice on the clerics and the Basij. I find it hard to believe that people who actually believe in a just God can act in such a way. I have always felt that most religious fanatic don’t actually believe in God. Their depravity confirms my suspicions.
