Iran says several people killed in violent clashes
TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian state television says several people were killed when “rioters” attacked a mosque in western Tehran.
The report was the first confirmation of deaths during violent clashes Saturday between police and supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi, who claims he won the June 12 presidential election. Sunday’s report did not specify how many people were killed.
Also Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki criticized Britain, France and Germany for raising concern about reports of voting irregularities in President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s victory.
Mottaki criticized France for taking “treacherous and unjust approaches” and said Britain “has always created problems” in relations between countries.
