India’s inflation minus 1.30 percent now

NEW DELHI - India’s annual rate of inflation fell to minus 1.30 percent for the week ended June 20, according to official data released here Thursday.

The rate of inflation for the week ended June 13 was at minus 1.14 percent.

The index for primary articles rose 0.5 percent, while that for fuel and power rose by 0.1 percent while manufactured products grew by 0.05 percent.

For the first time since the new wholesale price index (WPI) series started in 1995, India’s annual rate of inflation turned negative for the week ended June 6. The inflation rate had last turned negative in 1977.

The final data for the week ended April 25 showed that the revised annual inflation rate actually stood at 1.75 percent.
