India relaxes ban on Chinese toy imports

NEW DELHI - The government has relaxed the ban imposed on import of Chinese toys, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said a notification issued Monday.

The DGFT notification said that imports will be allowed only if the importer can produce a certificate stating that the toys conform to certain internationally-accepted quality standards.

In addition, the import consignment will also have to carry a certificate by the manufacturer that the toys were tested by an independent laboratory accredited by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation.

India had Jan 23 banned import of Chinese toys.
