Hiring underway at Midland solar panel plant
MIDLAND, Mich. — Hiring is underway at Evergreen Solar Inc.’s new $55 million plant in Midland, which will make silicon components for solar panels.
The Marlboro, Mass.-based company last month completed a $72.5 million stock sale, partly to raise money for the Midland plant. Last year, the project got a tax credit from the Michigan Economic Development Corp.
Evergreen Solar develops, makes and sells String Ribbon silicon wafer solar power products used in solar panels.
In the past four weeks, Evergreen has posted seven technical and management jobs at the Midland plant. It’s being built near Dow Corning Corp., a supplier of raw materials used in the process.
