SURAT - High tidal waves in Arabian Sea lash Gujarat coast.

Waves over 8 metres high struck Surat and Hazira industrial cluster while many low-lying areas were flooded in knee-deep water.

Authorities have issued a warning to people living in the coastal areas and shifted some families to safer locations.

“Hazira Outer as well as Hazira Inner areas will witness highest tide in month of July. Hazira Outer is expected to witness 8.18 metres high tides while Hazira Inner is expected to witness 6.19 metres high tide,” said Dilip Rawal, Collector, Surat.

“If we talk about month of June, Hazira Outer as well as Hazira Inner witnessed peak tides on 23rd-24th of the month. However from Friday onwards tides are expected to decrease,” he added.

High tides in Arabian Sea resulted in devastating floods in coastal regions of Surat in 2006, claiming more than 200 lives. (ANI)
