Hearing set for suspect in Tenn. baby kidnapping
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A woman charged with kidnapping a newborn in Tennessee is on her way to a court hearing.
David Boling with the U.S. attorney’s office says Tammy Renee Silas is being transferred by U.S. Marshals in time for a Wednesday afternoon hearing before U.S. Magistrate John S. Bryant in Nashville.
The 39-year-old was arrested Friday at her home in Ardmore, Ala. The baby was found with her, unharmed, after he was taken during a Sept. 29 knife attack on his mother in Nashville.
Silas has given a statement to law enforcement, but authorities haven’t released any details or a motive.
Silas waived her first hearing in Alabama, and the attorney who represented her there didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.
