Health insurer WellPoint may cut more jobs
INDIANAPOLIS — Health insurer WellPoint says it is considering another round of job cuts as it looks for ways to become more efficient.
The Indianapolis-based insurer says it reviews the size of its work force and makes adjustments according to the economy. The insurer also says many customers have trimmed their labor forces due to the current economic downturn.
WellPoint spokeswoman Kristin Binns says the company has no total for the number of cuts or when they may happen. She says WellPoint is looking at all areas of the company, not just employment levels, in its push to become more efficient.
WellPoint cut about 1,500 jobs earlier this year. Other insurers also have cut jobs during the recession.
