SC’s Gullah communities open farmers market
CHARLESTON, S.C. — A new farmers market has opened near the Gullah communities on South Carolina’s sea islands.
The Sea Island Regional Farmers Market, located outside of Charleston, features everything from sweetgrass basket makers and bee keepers to artisans selling their works and farmers selling local seafood, fish, meat and produce.
The market, on the Savannah Highway just west of Charleston, will be open Fridays and Saturdays.
Gullah is the sea island culture of slave descendants along the coast of the Carolinas.
