Green-clad group protests Ahmadinejad near UN
NEW YORK — Hundreds of people have gathered near the United Nations to protest Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (ah-muh-DEE’-neh-zhahd) as he prepares to address the UN.
The protesters claim that his June election victory was fraudulent and showed up Wednesday wearing green. That’s the signature color of his opposition, led by Mir Hossein Mousavi.
Twenty-one-year-old protester Amir Arani says he came to the U.S. from Iran in June to go to school.
Arani says he was in Iran for the election and believes it was “a big fraud.”
He says that “our president is not Ahmadinejad.”
The Iranian leader is scheduled to address the U.N. on Wednesday afternoon.
