Governments cancel all Ana tropical storm watches

MIAMI — The National Hurricane Center in Miami says all tropical storm watches have been discontinued for Ana as the storm dissipates while it moves through the Caribbean.

Several governments of Caribbean nations had issued watches as the storm approached.

As of 5 p.m., the Hurricane Center said Ana had degenerated into a trough of low pressure. However, its remnants could still produce heavy rainfall as they approach the Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and poverty-stricken Haiti, which was devastated by multiple storms last year.

Meanwhile, the first hurricane of this year’s Atlantic season, Bill, was gaining strength in the open Atlantic on a path that would take it toward Bermuda. The remnants of Tropical Storm Claudette were dumping rain on the southern U.S.
