German far-right party’s offices searched
BERLIN — German police say they have searched the headquarters of a far-right party in an investigation of letters it sent to politicians of foreign descent.
Berlin police say in a statement Wednesday that they searched the National Democratic Party’s national headquarters, along with the home of the head of its local branch in the capital.
They say three computers, several disks and the original letter were seized.
The official-looking letters were sent by the party’s Berlin branch to 30 politicians of immigrant descent running in Sunday’s general election. They said that “according to a five-step plan … foreigners would be repatriated to their countries of origin.”
Prosecutors opened an investigation that could lead to charges of racial incitement.
