KABUL - Four American soldiers were killed and two injured Monday when two helicopters collided in southern Afghanistan.

A military statement quoted military spokesman Col. Wayne Shanks as saying that hostile fire was not involved in the incident.

The injured had been evacuated to hospitals inside Afghanistan, he added.

The deaths come as the U.S. debates whether to send tens of thousands of more troops to the country, a request made by its commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McCrystal. (ANI)
