Former President Clinton receives Truman award
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Former President Bill Clinton has accepted the Harry S. Truman Public Service Award in a ceremony outside the Truman Library in Missouri.
More than 600 people greeted Clinton on Wednesday as he received the statuette for his years of public service before, during and after his presidency.
Clinton is the 35th recipient of the Truman Award, first given to Henry Kissinger. Officials in Truman’s hometown of Independence pick someone each year they believe best exemplifies what it means to be a public servant.
In a speech, Clinton encouraged those in the audience to work together at the community level to tackle common problems.
