Former POWs disappearing

AGING POWS: The number of former U.S. prisoners of war are top heavy with aging World War II veterans.

CHAPTERS FOLDING: The American Ex-Prisoners of War, an association of former POWs and their families, has lost about 100 chapters over the past five years — primarily because World War II members have died or become physically unable to organize or attend meetings.

IMPACT: Museums are seeing an increase in donations and histories from POWs and their families, but worry that many will die before publicly sharing their stories.
