Five suspected aides of Mehsud killed in Karachi encounter

KARACHI - Five alleged associates of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief, Baitullah Mehsud have been killed in a police encounter here.

The encounter, which took place in the Sohrab Goth area of the city, was carried out after security officials got credible information that some TTP extremists had entered the city in the guise of refugees from Swat, the Karachi city police chief, Waseem Ahmed said.

A team of security officials raided an apartment in the Sohrab Goth area, when the extremists opened fired at them.

Police retaliated killing five suspects on the spot, The Dawn reports.

However, officials said that some terrorists may have fled under the cover of darkness.

A huge cache of arms and ammunitions were also recovered from the apartment where the suspects were hiding. (ANI)
